Communication with Community Partners More Important than Ever

April 21, 2020

GCR’s Local and Community Relations staff continues to communicate all the ways the University of Arizona is serving the community during the COVID-19 crisis. These efforts include virus testing and tracking, medical supply production, and innovative patient care.

Local elected officials, business leaders, non-profit organizations, UArizona neighbors and the K-12 community regularly learn about the resources offered by UArizona that may be useful or provide comfort during this challenging time. These resources range from information provided by the College of Education for homeschooling parents to online tools provided by the Law School for effectively notifying landlords of financial challenges.

Community Relations will continue to connect university expertise with the local community. The outpouring of appreciation from our partners has been gratifying.

We really are “all in this together,” and more than ever the university is proving itself an essential partner in this battle.

Census Update

The Census Bureau recently announced they will ask Congress to authorize the extension of the window for field data collection and self-response to October 31, 2020. This will allow for apportionment counts to be delivered to the President by April 30, 2021, and redistricting data to be delivered to the states no later than July 31, 2021. This reprieve is necessary in light of the social distancing required at this time. However, these changes complicate efforts to accurately count UArizona students, many of whom move residences from one school year to the next. We will continue to communicate regularly with students and invite them to visit census.arizona.edu for answers to their questions.
