Pro-Active Education

University of Arizona Government and Community Relations is partnering with neighborhood associations around campus to distribute 3,000 door hangers with COVID-related public health guidance, general good neighbor principles, and important University contact information. The target audience for these door hangers is student renters. Materials will be distributed during the first two weeks of school. Additional UArizona-themed educational materials and signage have been created for student apartments, area merchants, campus affiliated religious organizations, SunTran, and other community partners.

Response to Large, Disruptive Gatherings in University Neighborhoods

An exciting new effort has been launched by GCR, in collaboration with Tucson Police Department’s Red Tag Unit, Ward Offices 3 & 6, Pima County, and the ten (10) Campus Community Relations Committee neighborhood associations.

  1. If a large gathering/noise complaint is received by any of the participating organizations they will communicate it to UArizona GCR. Complaints can come directly from the community by calling the UArizona Neighborhood Hotline at 520-282-3649.
  2. UArizona GCR will contact other members of the team and schedule a joint visit to the house within a few days.  Not all partner organizations need to be present for each visit.
  3. One member of the team will knock on the door and talk with anyone home. If invited to do so, the rest of the team will also join the conversation.  Personalized information will be left if no one answers the door.

Example of educational message in a scenario where there was a complaint about a gathering at this residence: The responding team member will share information about the Good Neighbor Guidelines, the Red Tag ordinance, social distancing guidelines, mask requirements and more.  We will remind students that we all need to stay safe so we can stay open.

Our community partners have demonstrated that they want the University to be successful in our efforts to bring students back to campus safely.  We are glad to partner with them to help get that message to our students.
