ABOR Names New President for Northern Arizona University; Approves Jedd Fisch as UA Football Coach & Tuition Setting Next on the Docket
The Arizona Board of Regents announced its selection for the next President of Northern Arizona, Jose Luis Cruz, who currently serves as Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost for the City University of New York (CUNY). Before CUNY, Cruz was Provost for Cal State Fullerton and Chief Student Affairs Officer for the University of Puerto Rico system. Typically, the presidential transition process lasts a few months before completion after announcement of ABOR’s selection.
ABOR also voted at their February meeting to approve Jedd Fisch as the new head football coach for the University of Arizona by approving a 5-year contract. Fisch is a highly qualified coach with an impressive background. For the past three years, Fisch served as an assistant coach for several National Football League (NFL) teams, and, during his 23-year career, he was part of the coaching staff of seven NFL teams. Fisch also served as a college assistant football coach with the Minnesota Golden Gophers, Miami Hurricanes, Michigan Wolverines, and the Pac- 12’s UCLA Bruins.
ABOR will next focus on the tuition & fee setting process. Each year the board holds a public hearing on the university presidents’ proposals and an in-depth workshop where each proposal is analyzed before being voted on at the board’s April board meeting.
