UA COVID 19 POD

  • The vaccine news from the state and county continues to be really encouraging.  University of Arizona's state POD has now exceeded 75,000 vaccine doses administered.  By AZDHS’s estimation, 88.7% of the currently prioritized groups in Pima County have received at least one dose.  That includes 71.9% of our 65+ population, and 36.8% of the 55-64 age bracket. (See AZDHS’s data dashboard, Vaccine Prioritization) In Pima County 250,944 people, 24.0%, have received at least one dose of vaccine.  Over 397,053 doses have been administered in the county.
  • According to the demographic data provided to us by the State, 20.52% of the people coming to the UArizona POD have identified as Hispanic/Latinx.  This compares to 15.3% countywide, and 9.3% statewide. We are particularly proud of this distinction, especially as a Hispanic Serving Institution.

  • Going forward, appointments at the state PODs, including at the UArizona, will be released every Friday for the following week.   This week’s appointments were released last Friday at 11a, and as I write this on Sunday morning there are still many appointments available.  If you know anyone who is eligible according to the State’s criteria (55+ or one of the following: health care provider, EMS worker, long-term care facility staff, education/childcare worker, protective services occupations) who needs help making an appointment please send them to covidhelp@arizona.edu.  We have students who will help them through the process.   Help is also available in Spanish and English at 844-542-8201.

  • If you know non-medical people who would like to volunteer at the UArizona POD, please direct them to sign up online: UArizona Vaccination POD Volunteer Registration Form (arizona.edu). In alignment with the State POD practice, we attempt to vaccinate volunteers after one shift. Medical volunteers are in great need and should continue to directed to AZ-ESAR-VHP (azdhs.gov).

  • If COVID conditions on the ground remain good, we will transition to Instructional Stage 3, allowing for classes up to 100 people, on March 29.
