UA COVID 19 POD

  • We are seeing some elevated Rt values below.  Remember, we want to keep the Rt below 1.  As of 4/2 our zip code, county, and state were all above 1, meaning COVID-19 is (again) spreading in the community.  The overall case numbers in the county remain relatively low, but as we look over some data tonight, we don’t see any zip code in the County with an Rt below 1, and most zip codes in the County have Rt values greater than ours in 85719.  It isn’t too late to reverse this latest trend, but this is a clear indication of a countywide concern.  Our wastewater experts also report a higher concentration of COVID-19 in the wastewater countywide.  Now, more than ever, we need to follow all the public health guidelines AND get vaccinated!

  • Cases on campus remain very low.  Over the past 10 days – 38 new cases out of 12,757 tests, .3% positivity rate.

  • The UArizona state POD has really been accelerating distribution lately.  Every day we are exceeding previous records for shots delivered.  4406 shots on 4/2! See the amazing details below.

  • We have now administered over 123,000 shots.  By AZDHS’s estimation, 30.5% of Pima County residents have received at least one dose, including 79.2% of our 65+ population, and 52.1% of the 55-64 age bracket. (See AZDHS’s data dashboard, Vaccine Prioritization) In Pima County 318,438 people have received at least one dose of vaccine.  Over 494,507 doses have been administered in the county.

  • According to the demographic data provided to us by the State this week, 22.3% of the people coming to the UArizona POD have identified as Hispanic/Latinx.

  • Please help us spread the word that every week more vaccine becomes available in our community and appointments are often available at the UA site and the county sites.  Refer anyone who needs help getting an appointment to covidhelp@arizona.edu.

  • Our standing plea: If you know non-medical people who would like to volunteer at the UArizona POD, please direct them to sign up online: UArizona Vaccination POD Volunteer Registration Form (arizona.edu). In alignment with the State POD practice, we attempt to vaccinate volunteers after one shift. Medical volunteers are in great need and should continue to be directed to AZ-ESAR-VHP (azdhs.gov).
