ABOR Committee Approves Men & Women’s Basketball Coaching Contracts
The Arizona Board of Regents Committee on Finance, Capital & Resources approved new Men’s basketball head coach Tommy Lloyd’s contract for a five-year term. Lloyd has been an assistant coach at Gonzaga University for the past 20 seasons, helping recruit and develop 19 All-Americans and 15 West Coast Conference players of the year and contributing to five straight 30-win seasons and a pair of National Championship appearances. Coach Lloyd’s strong reputation is a perfect fit for the University of Arizona’s goals and vision for the future and his leadership will continue the tradition of excellence within the university’s Men’s basketball program.
The committee also approved an amendment to Women’s basketball head coach Adia Barnes’ contract. Barnes led the women’s basketball team on a historic and exhilarating run in the 2021 NCAA tournament where the team made its first Elite Eight, Final Four and National Championship appearances. The tournament run resulted in unprecedented and well-deserved exposure for the Women’s basketball program and coach Barnes. Based on these incredible accomplishments, the university negotiated an increase to Barnes’ annual base salary, keeping Barnes in Tucson for 5 years.
Both contracts require approval by the full board at its upcoming June board meeting in Flagstaff.
