Senator Kelly’s Staff Visit Agrivoltaics Test Site

March 16, 2022

Senator Kelly’s staff visited the University of Arizona’s agrivoltaics test site at Tucson’s Manzo Elementary School. Agrivoltaics is the co-location of agriculture and photovoltaics (think solar panels). UA researcher, Greg Barron-Gafford has discovered that certain plants thrive in the shade provided by solar panels, while the plants in turn provide a cooling effect for the panels. The success of agrivoltaics thus far has demonstrated a potentially incredible benefit to food and energy production in arid environments.
