GCR's Jane Hays and Sara Fleury recently attended the Westmarc Legislative Breakfast at the Tolleson Performing Arts Center. The event featured a panel discussion about the recent legislative session and how it impacts communities in west/southwest Maricopa County.

Westmarc – the Western Maricopa Coalition is a public-private partnership of 15 communities, the business community and the educational sector in the West Valley of the greater Phoenix area.

Among the legislators who attended were Sen. Ken Bennett (District 1), Sen. Flavio Bravo (District 26), Sen. Frank Carroll (District 28), Rep. Lupe Contreras (District 22), Sen. Eva Diaz (District 22), Sen. Brian Fernandez (District 23) and Rep. Analise Ortiz (District 24). The legislators participated in a panel discussion facilitated by Westmarc public affairs committee co-chair Jodi Tas, who works for the city of Surprise. The nearly two-hour discussion focused on the state budget, policy accomplishments and ongoing challenges, including affordable housing, transportation and water.
