Community Engaged Colleagues group gathers at Grand Challenges Research Building

Outreach initiatives and opportunities for collaboration were the topics for the most recent Community Engaged Colleagues meeting, which was held in the Grand Challenges Research Building.

GCRB, the newest building on campus, expands the U of A’s capacity in optical sciences and the U of A-led Center for Quantum Networks. The building is home to programs aimed at addressing society’s most pressing challenges in areas including engineering, medicine, planetary science and optics. 

GCR’s Julie Katsel facilitated the conversation at the meeting, where attendees also learned of two notable upcoming events:  

College of Science 2025 Lecture Series

  • Date: March 6, 13, 20, 27 
  • Location: Centennial Hall
  • Lecture begins at 7 p.m., doors open at 6:15
  • RSVP for the lectures

This series explores the fascinating science behind communication and the integral part it plays in our everyday lives – from communicating with dogs, to bilingualism and how it shapes how we think and connect within our communities, to the communication challenges facing humans, computers and AI, and how we would begin to communicate with extraterrestrial civilizations.

Wildcat Saturday Art School

  • Date: Saturdays, March 29-May 3
  • Location:  School of Art, 1031 N. Olive Road
  • Registration fee $45

The College of Fine Arts is offering 10 engaging classes for children in grades K-6 with unique themes designed by art and visual culture education pre-service teachers. Select a link below to see the themes.

The Community Engaged Colleagues meeting wrapped up on the sixth floor balcony of the Grand Challenges Research Building, offering stunning views of the Mall, Arizona Stadium, Flandrau Science Center & Planetarium and the Santa Catalina Mountains.

In attendance were representatives from Admissions, Arizona Arts, Arizona Arts Live, University Marketing and Communications, the University of Arizona Cancer Center, the College of Pharmacy, the College of Science, the Center for the Philosophy of Freedom, the Department of Geosciences, Government & Community Relations, Housing and Residential Life , the Office of Societal Impact, the School of Government and Public Policy, Student Unions, Tech Launch Arizona and the College of Veterinary Medicine.
