Connecting community partners

April 30, 2024

Our on-campus team has been active representing the UA at a variety of local engagement events.

Nicole Roldan took part in the United Way 2024 My Summer Library program on behalf of the University, where she volunteered at Grijalva Elementary School in Tucson. The program aims to enhance access to free age-appropriate books for pre-kindergarten to second-grade students, enabling them to build their personal libraries during the summer. More than 200 kindergarten and 1st graders received 12 books and a book bag. To get involved as a volunteer or sponsor of this community initiative, email nroldan@arizona.edu.

Julie Katsel provided an update about the University to the Women Leading Tucson breakfast club. If you have suggestions for other community groups that would value receiving news and updates from our team, please let us know by emailing jkatsel@arizona.edu.

Nick Hilton supported the Marana Chamber of Commerce by joining its monthly Marana Insights meeting, which connects business leaders and connects them to the wider community. Christy Claremont from the James E. Rogers College of Law shared information on the many ways that the UA is a national leader in promoting affordable legal aid access. Colonel Casey Bartholomew from Davis Monthan AFB also provided remarks on base operations and specifically thanked the university for our many partnerships. For information on how to take advantage of the UA memberships in chambers of commerce please email Nick at hilton@arizona.edu.

Our team is deeply committed to our neighbors and regularly attends the neighborhood association meetings for the 10 communities surrounding the university. This week, Karen Sanson represented the UA to keep our team and community aware of developments related to cooling centers and transportation. She shared information with residents about a service project our community relations team is organizing to combat invasive species in the neighborhood.
