De-escalation Training For Campus Partners

Our Community Relations Team has been actively engaging community leaders to address off-campus safety concerns. We recently hosted a well-attended training on best practice in de-escalation. Sergeant Darrell Hussman from Tucson Police Department led the training for approximately 25 property managers who have experienced an uptick in crimes such as vandalism, trespass, and theft in and around their properties. Although most of these crimes occur off-campus, our team proactively reached out to affected properties. The coalition was formed in October 2022 to ensure the well-being of our students and campus neighbors through sharing resources and information. The group has met regularly since forming and we look forward to many more productive conversations in the future.
