The University of Arizona Federal Relations Office hosted Dr. Karletta Chief and accompanied her on visits to Capitol Hill. Dr. Chief is a UA hydrologist and director of the UA’s new Indigenous Resilience Center (IRC). The visits served to acquaint Members of the Arizona congressional delegation and Members in neighboring states with the important work being done by the Center. Arizona is home to 22 federally recognized Tribes, though the work of the UA Indigenous Resilience Center extends beyond Arizona’s state boundaries. The Center’s mission supports environmental resilience among Indigenous communities, with a focus on honoring culture, tribal sovereignty, and traditional knowledge.
