GCR meets with stakeholders, Cooperative Extension and city officials in Yavapai County
On a recent trip to Prescott and Prescott Valley, Jane Surgent, GCR’s Assistant Director for Local and Rural Outreach, met with former Arizona State Senate Presidents Karen Fann and Steve Pierce, as well as UA alum and veterinarian Dr. Steve Dow. They discussed important rural issues such as ranching, agricultural, education and natural resources. These discussions provided valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities facing rural communities.
Jane toured Prescott’s Cooperative Extension facility and met with Yavapai County’s Extension Director Matt Halldorson and 4-H Outreach Specialist Natalie Olson. They discussed the extensive programs and services offered by Cooperative Extension, including Master Gardener, 4-H Youth Development, Food Safety/Nutrition, Agriculture, Natural Resources, Ranching and Family Consumer and Health Sciences. Yavapai County has facilities in both Prescott and Camp Verde and is one of the 15 counties and eight Tribal Extension Offices that make up Cooperative Extension.
Finally, the trip concluded with an informative discussion with Prescott Valley Town Manager Gilbert Davidson. They discussed Prescott Valley’s population growth, as well as PV’s water and environmental issues.
