U of A’s Cooperative Extension has a physical presence in all of Arizona’s 15 counties and eight tribal offices throughout the state. Recently, GCR’s Jane Hays visited the Coconino County office in Flagstaff and met with Director Hattie Braun. She and her team continuously address the needs of county residents, an impressive feat considering that Coconino County spans more than 18,600 square miles, making it the largest county in Arizona by total area.

The Coconino Cooperative Extension provides many opportunities for residents of Flagstaff and those residing throughout the county. These include the Coconino Master Gardener program, 4-H, Urban Ag Production, Small-Scale Beginner Farmer Program, Commercial Horticulture, Rangeland Management, AZ Project WET, Food Canning Resources, Water Management and an extensive Seed Library Program. This impressive range of programs offered in a county this size is a prime example of Extension advancing our Land Grant Mission by mobilizing resources, collaborating effectively and meeting the diverse needs of Arizona communities.
