Apartment managers, merchants, Tucson Police Department officers, and UA representatives from the Office of Public Safety, UAPD, Dean of Students Office, Parent and Family Programs and more gather to discuss ways to help students stay safe when they are off campus.

Community Relations convenes monthly meetings with off-campus student housing managers to share information, coordinate initiatives and collaborate. The group met this month to hear updates from UA Vice President and Chief Safety Officer Steve Patterson and Tamra Ingersoll, the Public Information Officer in the UA Office of Public Safety. Tamra shared information about how the office is working to increase the number of student-oriented safety messages to enable property managers to share these with residents. Other recent meetings have included presentations on topics as varied as preventing drug overdoses to the University’s Destination Arizona program.

The group is also participating in an ongoing food, clothing and small furniture drive. The drive began in May to help students donate items to local charities during summer move-outs and has delivered approximately 5,000 pounds of donations to six local charities. Within the first week, the effort stocked shelves at the Campus Pantry and filled all the available space in the Campus Closet. For information on how to join or present safety information to this group, email Nicole Roldan at nroldan@arizona.edu.
