Julie Katsel (in red) joined girls from all over Arizona to talk about government relations during Arizona Girls State.

During the 77th Annual Arizona Girls State, which took place on the U of A campus the week of June 2, Julie Katsel, assistant vice president for local and community relations, engaged with the delegates, sharing insights about the University and her role in representing it to elected officials.

Girls State is a weeklong summer program held at the U of A that offers a transformative experience for young women across Arizona. Selected by their school administrators, these delegates represent their schools in this highly competitive program. They become citizens of a mythical state called Arizona Girls State, residing in fictional cities within fictional counties. The delegates participate in elections, draft ordinances and resolutions, debate legislation and learn about the judicial process. Julie spoke with delegates who ran to be selected as lobbyists, discussing her real-world lobbying experiences.
