Misael Cabrera, Director of the University of Arizona School of Mining & Mineral Resources, testified before the House Natural Resources Committee this past Tuesday on the importance of copper as a critical mineral and its essential role in the green energy transition. The Committee held a legislative hearing on Tuesday, June 4, on three different pieces of legislation under consideration, including H.R. 8446, “To amend the Energy Act of 2020 to include critical materials in the definition of critical mineral, and for other purposes”. The bill was introduced by Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ) to create alignment between definitions and classifications of critical minerals and materials across the Department of Energy and the Department of Interior.
