United Way Honors UA Cares Initiative
Our Local Relations Team was pleased to finalize another year of successful UA Cares initiatives by accepting an award from the United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona at their annual Circle of Excellence Awards. We were humbled to be recognized with the Cornerstone Award, which recognizes organizations that are leading the way in raising awareness for and supporting local community needs. Our workplace giving campaign was specifically celebrated for our work last fall to raise nearly $270,000 for local charitable causes. UA Cares Ambassadors joined us in accepting this award and we’re already plugging away to make next year’s initiatives even more impactful.
As a reminder, UA Cares is a set of four university-wide initiatives that empower each of us to give back to the community. In addition to our workplace giving campaign that occurs each October, UA Cares Ambassadors also help us supply our local hospitals with life-saving blood, restock the shelves of the Campus Pantry and Community Food Bank, and promote the Employee Emergency Fund to assist our colleagues struggling with financial emergencies. In the last year, these initiatives have saved approximately 436 lives through our blood drives, raised nearly 5,000 pounds of food to fight hunger, and have distributed more than $10,000 to our colleagues in need.
