The annual Women in Government Luncheon was hosted at the Arizona State Courts Building on the Capitol Mall. Among the many elected and appointed leaders in attendance were (front row, beginning third from left) Arizona Supreme Court Justice Kathryn H. King, Chief Justice Ann A. Scott Timmer, Justice Maria Elena Cruz, Arizona State Treasurer Kimberly Yee and Arizona Board of Regents Chair Cecilia Mata.

GCR’s Jane Hays and Sara Fleury recently attended the annual Women in Government Luncheon, which included approximately 50 women in appointed and elected leadership positions.

Convened by the women justices of the Arizona Supreme Court and chaired by Chief Justice Ann A. Scott Timmer (U of A undergraduate alum) and Justice Kathryn H. King (James E. Rogers College of Law alum), the annual luncheon was initiated under the leadership of retired Justice Ruth McGregor.

The event was held on the same day that Gov. Katie Hobbs announced the appointment of Justice Maria Elena Cruz to the Arizona Supreme Court. Cruz is Arizona’s first Latina and black Supreme Court justice. She obtained both her undergraduate and law school degrees from the U of A.

The event featured presentations by Clare Maher, managing partner of corporate reputation consultancy Prologue Strategy, and Arizona State University journalism and mass communications instructor Crystal Alvarez. Both speakers offered insights and counsel on building trust within public institutions.
