Last week Community Relations joined President Robbins as he led Pima Community College Chancellor Lee Lambert, Pima JTED Superintendent & CEO Kathy Prather, Banner-University Medical Center Tucson CEO Sarah Frost, Don Bourn, and others on a visit to the Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professionals in Houston.

Established in 1972 as a partnership between the Houston Independent School District and Baylor College of Medicine, this public school located in the Texas Medical Center is continually ranked among the top high schools in the county.

Determined to expand opportunity and create new pathways to academic and professional careers for students in Tucson’s under served communities, partners across our region have joined together to establish the area’s first high school geared to health and medical careers, modeled after the DeBakey success.

Located at the UA Tech Park at The Bridges, the vision is to create a one-of-a-kind, specialized high school for Tucsonans, particularly those from the most challenged areas in our community, so students can gain exposure to a full spectrum of health and medical fields via tailored curricula and unique exploration opportunities designed to prepare them for careers in those fields.

There will be much more information to come about this exciting opportunity in the coming months.  If you have questions in the meantime please reach out to Julie Katsel, jkatsel@arizona.edu.
