Last week, the University of Arizona hosted the launch event of the Hispanic Serving Research Universities Alliance (HSRU) at the UA’s Washington DC Center for Collaboration and Outreach. The alliance is a collective of 20 R1 research universities, each designated a Hispanic-Serving Institution by the Department of Education, who are dedicated to increasing Hispanic representation at their institutions and across higher education. The alliance has set a goal to double the number of Hispanic doctoral students and increase the number of Hispanic faculty by 20 percent at their institutions by 2030.

The launch included the presidents and chancellors of eight of the participating universities, as well as representatives from several other members of the alliance. Marla Franco, Assistant Vice Provost for Hispanic Serving Institution Initiatives at the UA welcomed and addressed the crowd. KGUN featured the story here.
