Arizona's 4-H Program’s annual Capitol Hill visit
As Arizona’s land-grant institution, the University of Arizona operates Arizona’s 4-H Program, the state’s largest youth-serving organization provided through Arizona's Cooperative Extension. This week, 14 Arizona youth, chaperoned by the students' parents and 4-H agents, participated in “Ignite by 4-H”, a national conference to spark their interest in the best 4-H has to offer in STEM, agriscience, healthy living, career readiness and emotional well-being. The students and chaperones came from five Arizona counties – Santa Cruz, Cochise, Maricopa, Pinal and Pima – as well as the Hopi Tribe and San Carlos Apache Tribe. The day prior to the conference, the UA Federal Relations team escorted the students on Capitol Hill for conversations with Members of Congress and congressional staffers. They had the opportunity to discuss Arizona's 4-H program with Senator Kelly, learn about congressional internships and receive an in-depth Capitol tour from Senator Sinema’s staff. The students also met with Representatives Crane and Ciscomani, who relayed personal insights and provided valuable advice for these young leaders from our state.
