UA in Full Force at 2019 Arizona League of Cities and Towns Conference

Aug. 26, 2019

The annual Arizona League of Cities Towns conference is the Super Bowl of Arizona local government.  Last week, the conference drew more than 1200 people, including 600 local elected officials, many state legislators, Governor Doug Ducey, and Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Martha McSally to the JW Marriott resort in Tucson. GCR was pleased to coordinate the University’s participation in the conference.

President Robbins addresses an audience at the Arizona League of Cities and Towns Conference

President Robbins joined Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild in welcoming participants to Tucson.  During his remarks, the President reminded attendees of the University’s land grant mission and how UA is charged with serving the entire state with a presence in every county in Arizona.  Robbins further impressed attendees with his enthusiasm for preparing Arizona students for success in the new economy and changing world.  On a panel discussing how universities are preparing the workforce of the future, Health Sciences Senior Vice President Dr. Michael Dake continued President Robbins’ emphasis on preparing for a changing world.  He focused on a topic of great concern to leaders throughout Arizona, the future of healthcare delivery.

Throughout the 3 day conference, UA’s exhibit booth featured the work of Eller Executive Education, Arizona Cooperative Extension, the Water Resources Research Center, the Yuma Center of Excellence for Desert Agriculture, the Arizona Simulation Technology and Education Center, and the Richard F. Caris Mirror Lab.  Many conference participants told us our changing booth with hands-on displays were a highlight of the conference.  We were glad to be joined by Undergraduate Admissions staff who presented to the conference’s youth participants and answered many questions from interested parents and grandparents of future Wildcats.  We thank all who joined us at our booth and represented the UA so well!
