Congressional Internships in D.C. and Tucson
Earn credit while engaging federal policymakers
We connect you with Tucson or Washington DC-based congressional offices looking for student interns just like you.
More Than an Internship
Learn from national leaders set to change the world
Work on special projects with federal agencies, resolve constituency concerns or requests, attend meetings on behalf of members, and expand your professional network all while earning academic credit. Prior experience or knowledge of the federal legislative process is not required but strongly encouraged.
As a congressional intern, you will work alongside legislative and executive staff while developing a deeper understanding of the federal law-making process.
Before You Apply
Get your foot in the door and jump start your career
Take time to research each member and familiarize yourself with their opinion on various policy issues and areas of legislation. Find a member with extensive work in an area that most interests you (i.e. immigration, women’s rights, national defense, etc). Federal agencies and branches of government also accept applications.
After You Apply
Use your best judgment or ask for a timeline
Follow up on your application. Regular contact with an office can be critical in being selected for an internship-once a week is a good rule of thumb. Do not overwhelm their office with relentless calls or emails.
Tips for a Successful Application
Be sure you meet or speak with your academic advisor
We strongly encourage undergraduate applicants to apply for multiple congressional offices as this will increase the likelihood of a successful match.
Visit their website
Every congressional office has different application requirements and deadlines. Make sure you are aware of all documentation needed before applying.
Know your strengths
If applying to a member that is actively involved in your area of interest, be sure to list it on the application. While not guaranteed, this can boost your chances.
Emphasize your state
Let's face it, you'll have an advantage over applicants with no connection to the state. Make sure your application is tied back to Arizona.
