On June 30, 2021 Governor Ducey signed the fiscal year 2022 state budget. The budget enacts $12.8 billion in spending, including a significant investment in higher education.

The Arizona Board of Regents Committee on Finance, Capital & Resources approved new Men’s basketball head coach Tommy Lloyd’s contract for a five-year term. The committee also approved an amendment to Women’s basketball head coach Adia Barnes’ contract.

On May 25, the Arizona Legislature introduced a series of budget and tax bills that reflects a deal between the Governor’s Office and House and Senate Republican leadership. This deal includes robust investments in state government as well as a flat tax reform to be phased in over the next four years.

The Arizona legislature referred to the voters a measure that would make undocumented students who graduate from Arizona high schools eligible for in-state tuition.

After more than a decade of legislative attempts, Governor Ducey signed a bill that permits community colleges to offer certain four-year degrees. The bill passed out of both chambers by significant margins and was signed by the Governor on May 4, 2021.

On April 15, Governor Ducey, accompanied by several tribal leaders across the state, signed into law a bill that legalizes sports betting in Arizona. HB2772 (fantasy sports betting; event wagering) was one of the Governor’s main legislative priorities.
