GCR Update

This week Dr. Connie Miller, Chair of General Nursing and Health Education Division within the College of Nursing participated in a panel discussion held by the Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

Arizona’s two new Members of Congress received their first committee assignments this past week.

On Friday, January 13, Governor Hobbs released her FY24 Executive Budget recommendation. The $17.1 billion budget proposal includes $1.34B in new initiatives.

President Robbins spent several days over the last two weeks advocating for the University of Arizona at the State Capitol. 

GCR attended and had a popular booth at the ACMA’s Summer Conference in Tucson last week. 

Last week Community Relations was represented at Marketing and Communications’ successful One Conference.  Julie Katsel presented information about the University’s effort to receive the 2024 Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement.

After more than 20 years of development, NASA released the first images of the universe captured from the James Webb Space Telescope.

The University of Arizona Federal Relations Office hosted Dr. Karletta Chief and accompanied her on visits to Capitol Hill.

On June 23rd the Arizona legislature passed the state budget for fiscal year 2023. The $18 billion budget is the largest passed in state history.

The new Arizona Native Scholars Grant program, the first of its kind for a public Arizona university, will cover tuition and mandatory fees for full-time undergraduate students from Arizona's 22 federally recognized tribes who are studying on the main campus.
